Taekwon-Do

WHAT IS TAEKWON-DO?

Taekwon-Do is the Korean Martial Art of self-defence. Taekwon-Do, as we know it today, was founded by General Choi Hong Hi in 1955, however the Martial Arts origins go back centuries.

Taekwon-Do focuses on 5 main principles; Courtesy, Intergrity, Perseverance, Self-control & Indomitable Spirit.

Students are encouraged to not only train by these core principles, but to also live by them outside of the Dojang.

TAEKWON-DO DISCIPLINES

Fundamentals - The foundations of all Taekwon-Do disciplines. Fundamental movements are drilled in every class, normally in a line formation. These movements cover all techniques you will learn in Taekwon-Do.

Patterns - A very important aspect of Taekwon-Do. Patterns are a series of fundamental movements designed to develop sparring techniques, improve flexibility of movement and develop fluid and smooth motions.

Sparring - Sparring is used to teach students how to deal with a live and moving human opponent in a controlled environment with protective sparring gear.

Special Technique & Power Breaking - Flying and jumping kicks designed to challenge the students kicking height and explosive jumping power.

Using a single strike or kick to break multiple boards.

Competition -  Putting your skills to the test against opponents from other clubs/schools. We compete in Interclub, National, International & World level tournaments.

Grading System -  Students start at white belt 10th Kup and throughout their training are graded and assessed on the above disciplines (excluding competition). On passing their assessment, they are given their new belt and promoted to the next grade;.
